Timberking b-20 milling a 30 inch Cherry Log

Sawing Techniques:

We saw for both quality and dimensional stock.  Quality sawing is called face sawing.  Dimensional sawing
produces building lumber.

Face Sawing:
Quality hardwoods are sawed by continuously turning the log to expose the best face to saw.  This produces
lumber with the least defects in look.  Face sawn lumber dries with less defects because it is stress relieved as it is
sawn.  As the core of the hardwood log is approached the defects increase and cores are generally used as pallet
stock or posts. Face sawing takes a little more time but is essential to recover the most use able lumber from a
high grade log.

Dimensional Sawing:
Dimensional sawing is optimizing the log yield for the most usable building products, we do this at the customers
request with low value species such as pine, poplar or sycamore.

Quarter Sawing:
We use this method, mostly on large white oak, to show off what is called ray fleck and to increase board stability
in some applications.
